The colloquium 2013 organised jointly by the Institute of Tropical Medicine (ITM,Antwerp)  and the Institute of Public Health (IPH, Bangalore, India) is the third in a series of regional colloquia on research for the control of neglected infectious diseases, including zoonoses.  The first of these thematic colloquia was organised in Lima in 2009 and focused on Latin America, the second one was held at South Africa, the focus was on Africa, and the colloquium 2013 focuses on Asia

The event will offer a platform for human and animal health researchers and professionals to debate common challenges and identify key research priorities for the future.

It aims to discuss the precise nature of the interface between disease control and general health systems in a variety of contexts – and explore whether and how neglected disease control programmes can contribute to strengthening general health systems. Evidence of private sector and ‘other sectors’ in strengthening infectious disease interventions will also be explored.

The 2013 event will take place on 21-23 November 2013 in Bengaluru, the capital of the Karnakata State in South India.  The scientific programme will consist of several cross-cutting themes that address different aspects of disease control (both in the field of research as in the fields of policy and programme implementation & evaluation) and their respective consequences and implications on the functioning of Asian health systems, now and in the future.
