GREASE (Gestion des Risques Emergents en Asie du Sud-Est) is a regional network on Emergent Risks Management in South East Asia. It is currently coordinated by the CIRAD/Kasetsart University office (office of the international affairs of the Veterinary Medicine Faculty) in Bangkok.

“GREASE participates to the geographical partnership strategy of CIRAD, centering on the implementation of research and training platforms in partnership”.

The core members of the network consist of national research centers in the fields of Animal Health and Agriculture in Thailand (KU), Vietnam (NIVR), Laos (NUOL), Cambodia (NAVRI), The Philippines (CMU) and Indonesia (UGM), involved on a long lasting partnership with CIRAD (France) in Southeast Asia.
Associated partners also participate in the network through diverse collaborations for the implementation of Research Projects or Workshops and Trainings activities: Pasteur Institute in Cambodia, Thammasat University, Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and Mahidol University in Thailand, IRD and CNRS in France and Southeast Asia, OIE and FAO-RAP in Southeast Asia and University of the Philippines Los Baños in Philippines. Other research institutions from Malaysia, Singapore, and Southern China may join the network in 2014.

CIRAD (Centre de Coopération Internationale en Recherche Agronomique pour le Développement) is a French agricultural research centre working for development in developing countries and French overseas region. It has a mandate to contribute to sustainable development through research, trials, training and the dissemination of scientific and technical information. For recent years, some collaborative research projects have been conducted between Cirad and other Partners on epidemiology and ecology of Transboundary Animal Diseases and Emerging Animal (including zoonotic) Infectious Diseases in the sub region. Cirad considers that this partnership is a strategic and a priority one among its many activities in the world.

Its objectives are to ensure transparency in the global animal disease situation, collect, analyse and disseminate veterinary scientific information, encourage international solidarity in the control of animal diseases, safeguard world trade by publishing health standards for international trade in animals and animal products, Improve the legal framework and resources of national Veterinary Services and to provide a better guarantee of food of animal origin and to promote animal welfare through a science-based approach. The OIE Sub-Regional Representation for Southeast Asia (OIE SRR-SEA) is located in the compound of the Department of Livestock Development (DLD) of Thailand in Bangkok.

Oxford University Clinical Research Unit (OUCRU), Vietnam is a large-scale clinical and public health research unit based in Viet Nam. We are hosted by the Hospital of Tropical Diseases (HTD) in Ho Chi Minh City, and the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases (NHTD) in Hanoi. We also have sister units in Kathmandu, and Jakarta. As a Wellcome Trust Major Overseas Programme, we have received considerable support from the Wellcome Trust since our establishment in 1991.

Pasteur Institute of Cambodia (IPC), The Institut Pasteur du Cambodge is a research and public utility under the patronage of the State of Cambodia. It belongs to the International Network of Pasteur Institutes with whom it develops ongoing collaborations. The activities of the IPC are oriented towards biomedical research and surveillance of infectious diseases, in partnership with institutes and national centers for infectious diseases and hospitals. Research developed at the IPC are based on the diagnosis, biological characterization and molecular epidemiology of viruses (influenza, dengue, HIV …), bacteria (tuberculosis, salmonella, legionella, leptospirosis …) and malaria with particular emphasis on the identification and study of the mechanisms of resistance of these microorganisms to treatment. IPC, in cooperation with universities and vocational schools in Cambodia, promotes knowledge on infectious diseases for the benefit of public health through education and training in universities and for continuing education. IPC also provides a platform for comprehensive medical and biological analyses which is unique in Cambodia.
