Geographical Epidemiology

The principle instructor for this course is Dr. Olaf Berke, a statistical epidemiologist working in the area of veterinary epidemiology in the Department of Population Medicine at the Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph, Canada.

This graduate level course presents a practical and comprehensive overview of geographical epidemiology. By the end of the course students will be able to;

  • Explain the uses of geographic epidemiology
  • Identify types of spatial data in public health
  • Associate types of statistical methods and mapping methods with data types
  • Analyze and model public health data
  • Identify geographic clusters 
  • Apply free software to public health data, i.e. R/RStudio, OpenBugs and SaTScan
  • Identify areas of recent research avenues in geographical epidemiology
